There’s a decent joint called Easy Pickens in Mason off 290 if you get hungry on the way to Junction.

*Fantastic* list.
I hope this isn’t the only trip you’re planning because Thompson’s in Crockett has to be a part of any consideration of who has the best BBQ in the world. We all know the best is in Texas. F$#% Kansas City.
The best of luck to you guys – this is one worthy endeavor.
What about Ruby’s (Not Rudy’s) in Austin? No trip to Salt Lick?
You will need to check the air in your tires after the fourth stop ’cause ya’ll will be a lot heavier. Taking a trip to BBQ heaven. Blacks and Muellers are my personal favorites. Thx for making me hungry!
@jose: Salt Lick is on the route. We’ll be getting together another group of spots to visit after we recover from this round! Ruby’s is on the short list, to be sure.
thanks everyone for the feedback.
Milt’s Pitt BBQ in Kyle, TX! Get the pork ribs! They’re fall-off-the-bone goodness!
Why not try one veggie BBQ?
counter culture has a great BBQ sandwich

City Market in Luling is equal to or better than every BBQ joint in Lockhart.
